GYE NYAME CATHOLIC YOUTH ASSOCIATION
The Youth Organisation of the Ghanaian Catholic Community in Düsseldorf met on Sunday 28th January 2007, after the Holy Mass celebrated by Reverend Father Joseph Ernest Arthur – the Priest in Charge of the Community. This was their first meeting with Mr. Kwame Nkansah Brempong – the then newly appointed Minister for Youth & Children Affairs. The members who were present at the meeting were very much concerned about the poor attendance of the youth of the community during meetings. They, however, decided to work hard to improve the organisation. A series of invitations from the Archdiocese of Cologne to participate in certain catholic youth programmes of the areas, as well as the World´s Youth Day 2008 in Sydney in Australia were under some of the topics which emerged for discussions during this meeting. Even though the group couldn´t be sponsored for Sydney, they however attended some local youth engagements in our Archdiocese including several “Night Meeting” and sport activities. The youth is now grouped into Youth A and Youth B. They meet once every month on the 2nd Sunday of the Mass after the Mass in the community Hall.
The Female members of the organization also organize the children’s Sunday Classes during the Mass every Sunday. The Children meet in the dressing room of the Church Choir and learn about the Bible and practice songs and shows for presentations.
Due to their education and other activities including sports, the members find it difficult to attend the Mass and for that matter also meetings. The Association is not functioning well. Mr. Nkansah Brempong has been assigned with the duty to reorganize the youth.
